Monthly maintenance checklist for electric dirt bikes (79Bike, Sur-Ron, Talaria)

No oil change or spark plug on an electric bike — but that doesn't mean zero maintenance. Off-road vibration, mud and instant torque wear brakes, drivetrain and fasteners. Thirty minutes a month prevents most mid-ride breakdowns.
1. Brakes: check number one
- Pad thickness (replace below 1.5 mm of friction material).
- Firm lever that doesn't come back to the bar.
- Discs free from deep scoring or warping, bolts tight.
- No leaks at calipers or hoses.
More: replacing brake pads · bleeding brakes.

2. Drivetrain
- Chain tension: 20–35 mm of slack at the tightest spot.
- Chain clean and lubed, master link in place.
- Sprocket teeth not hooked, sprocket bolts tight.
- On Falcon Pro / GT: primary belt condition (no fraying).
More: adjusting chain tension.
3. Wheels, tyres and steering
- Cold pressure (see our tyre pressure guide).
- Spokes: tap them with a spanner; a dull sound means a loose spoke.
- Wheel bearings: wheel off the ground, no side play.
- Steering head: front brake on, rock the bike back and forth; no clunk.
4. Suspension and fasteners
Check the critical points are tight: axles, bar clamps, triple clamps, calipers, footpegs, battery and swingarm mounts. Wipe the fork tubes and look for oil (seal to replace). Make sure the shock isn't leaking.
5. Battery, electrics and lights
- Battery case free from impacts or swelling, lock working.
- Connectors clean, dry and fully seated.
- Wiring loom not rubbing on the frame (worn sheath = future short circuit).
- On the L1e-B road version: headlight, brake light, indicators, horn and mirrors working — it's a legal requirement.

Once a year, as well
Battery capacity test, fork oil change, DOT brake fluid replacement if needed, full bearing check (wheels, swingarm, steering) and any firmware update. Our workshop carries out a full service by appointment.

FAQ
How much does it cost to maintain an electric dirt bike?+
Far less than a petrol bike: no engine oil, filter or spark plug. The main costs are consumables (pads, chain kit, tyres), and how often depends on your riding.
Does maintenance affect the warranty?+
Regular, documented maintenance always makes a warranty claim easier. Keep your parts invoices and log the work you do.
Can you service my bike?+
Yes, our workshop services 79Bike, Sur-Ron and Talaria. Contact us to book.
Key takeaways
Brakes, drivetrain, wheels, fasteners, electrics: five blocks, thirty minutes a month. It's the most cost-effective way to ride safely and protect your bike's value.
